The ultimate goal of The Legendary Sky Project is to bring more of the northern sky into northern classrooms. The Northwest Territories has a population of 40,000 people who live in small, isolated communities scattered across a vast Arctic and Sub-Arctic landscape. Education is essential to the well-being of each community, and classrooms are an important source of modern and traditional knowledge for young people who will one day be community leaders. Much of the science taught in the Northwest Territories is based on the Alberta curriculum, meaning students are confined to textbooks that do not reflect the nature and culture of the sky above their community. In the land of the Midnight Sun, where winter auroras appear every night, where Polaris is directly overhead, and where local knowledge is integral to each and every community, The Legendary Sky Project will play an import role to develop resources and curriculum that reflects the knowledge and heritage of the region, allowing students to build a lifelong connection to the sky above their communities.
